Climate, Human Rights and State

The human dimension in Risk Society

Reading this book instigates us to reflect on a topic of greater relevance: the human dimension in the context of climate change. The author presents us with a careful look, especially focused on the most vulnerable populations, and leads us to reflect on some contemporary aspects, such as socio-environmental risks. Despite the uncertainties of the degree of impact of climate change, projections of global warming scenarios suggest the need to act promptly, from the local to the global scale. In particular, because human rights in the context of the risk society will be directly affected. This also involves rethinking the current governance structure. To support such reflection, this work shows us the close relationship between society and the environment. Living in a safe environment leads to the reduction of inequalities and greater access to social justice. However, the path taken shows us that the choices made so far lead to the abyss between nations. The lack of systemic vision and public participation contributes to the deepening of the polycrisis. Thus, the author exposes the need for new solidarity attitudes at the global level, something essential for an integrative society. This book provides us with that analysis.
